Max Patté is a British-born, Mallorca-based artist whose works defy the borders drawn across art's traditional landscape. Resting between sculpture and painting, and borrowing from each to chart a new trajectory, they reveal the complexity of their design by degrees. Taking its title from a key new work, a wall sculpture in mirror-polished, colour-dyed stainless steel, Unfolding gathers a practice long attuned to light, reflection, composition and time. For the first time, significant earlier works sit alongside new pieces, so the exhibition itself can be read as a symphonic unfolding.

Since heading the sculpting department at Weta Workshop, Patté has married digital innovation with tactile craft, sketching on his iPad before translating ideas into form. His Infinity works draw light into a seemingly bottomless depth. The Colours of Home paintings dissolve and recompose the hues of flora, soil and dune into tessellated planes. The Cluster and Unfurling sculptures gather and open like fresh growth, their reflective contours catching the room and quietly redrawing it.

Unfolding returns the room to itself, altered with every step and shift of light. In the courtyard, Abyss, a two-metre figure in the same mirror-polished finish, carries that reflection into open air. Identifiable but essentially changed, each work whispers of both inception and evolution. Given time, something begins to unfold itself.
