Max Patté: Colours of Home

6 November - 7 December 2025

"Colours of Home draws inspiration from Mallorca's spring, especially almond blossoms. It represents a journey that began with a family walk along the lanes that head out to the nearby winery in our hometown. It's a collection that reflects my day-to-day life, a life of experimentation and play. Hopefully, some of this playfulness, some of the joy I find through making art and a life spent in colour, finds its way into the work."

- Max Patté, 2025

Colours of Home traces a year-long exploration inspired by a single spring walk through Mallorca's almond groves. Beginning with photographs and scans of collected blossoms, Patté deconstructs the natural palette, light, and form of his new village into an evolving body of paintings and sculptures.

Patté's approach involves a rigorous process of deconstruction and reinterpretation, where selected images are systematically broken down into their colour, pattern and form. This methodology determines whether a work manifests as painting or sculpture, yet the process remains organic: one piece inherently informs the next, paintings evolve into sculptural forms and elements from earlier works reappear throughout the collection, allowing the body of work to be understood chronologically.

What emerges are works that may retain no obvious representational qualities to their source, yet remain entirely grounded in it. Each work tells a story rooted in the natural world, inviting viewers on a journey through Patté's inward eye, where they can witness how these observations manifest in physical form.

British-born Max Patté is a multi-media contemporary artist whose work spans sculpture, painting, and light. A graduate of Wimbledon School of Art (1997–2000) and elected Associate of the Royal Society of British Sculptors in 2008, he went on to head the sculpting department at Weta Workshop in New Zealand, contributing to film, television, and public art projects. Those years, he says, were like an apprenticeship - sharpening technique, materials knowledge, and work ethic - before stepping out to pursue his own practice.

Since opening his studio in 2014, Patté has immersed himself in an exploration of light, space, and colour, citing modern technologies as an ongoing catalyst. Collected and exhibited internationally, his work is held by significant figures from Sir Ian McKellen to the Sacchi Collection, as well as numerous private collections worldwide.

Now based in Mallorca, Spain, he continues to expand his practice across mediums and scales, guided by a constant drive to experiment and evolve.

Works are available to purchase immediately exclusively from Kelli Lundberg Art, and will be exhibited in Max Patté: Colours of Home 6 Nov - 7 Dec, 2025.
