Local artist Emma Davies transforms humble industrial materials into ethereal textile sculptures inspired by the natural beauty of the Mornington Peninsula. This solo exhibition at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery, Victoria showcases sculptures meticulously crafted from baler twine pressed into repurposed bird netting. Emma Davies' innovative techniques are labour-intensive and repetitive, with thousands upon thousands of these marks accumulating into textured, tactile works. These delicate forms are organic and fluid, reflecting the essence of water.
Following her acclaimed exhibition Ethereal Threads at Kelli Lundberg Art last year and feature in Fables and Folklore at Melbourne's esteemed Craft Victoria, Emma Davies returns with a landmark show Tethered Threads in the foyer of the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery.
Alongside a focussed curation of new work, the exhibition’s centrepiece, Coracle, will be suspended from the ceiling of the MPRG foyer. This striking installation exemplifies the artist’s meticulous process, embodying a delicate intricacy that evokes the rhythm of water. Through the transformation of utilitarian materials into sculptural forms, Davies meditates on themes of connection and continuity, blending the organic with the industrial.
