Two Lines Studio

Geelong-based Two Lines Studio is the practice of Kirby Bourke, a sculptural furniture maker whose work sits at the intersection of fabrication and form, metal and minimalism.

Kirby's work is immediately recognisable: bold in its geometry, considered in its restraint, and quietly playful in the way it holds space. Each piece is built from a genuine appreciation for skilled craftsmanship and shaped by the language of contemporary architecture - structures that are resolved, confident, and made to last.

The studio's installations bring this sensibility into full expression, with modular furniture and sculptural objects presented in dialogue with one another, somewhere between the functional and the purely contemplative. It is here that Kirby's quietly mischievous streak emerges. A chair that reads as a collectible design, made with evident skill and care, leaves the viewer genuinely unsure: is this to be sat in, or simply admired from a respectful distance? Kirby knows the answer - he is perfectly happy for people to use his pieces - but he is in no hurry to tell you. That uncertainty, that moment of hesitation before a beautifully made object, is entirely intentional. It is part of the work.
