Jackie Green is an Australian Abstract artist residing on the Mornington Peninsula. After studying at the Melbourne School of Art and Photography, Jackie pursued a successful career in traditional freehand signwriting. A commission for a live mural in 2019 ignited a desire for deeper creative fulfilment and Jackie has since maintained a full time artistic practice, distilling her signwriting expertise into abstract paintings that meld typography and iconography with vibrant colour.
Jackie's practice is underpinned by a thematic juxtaposition between the urban and coastal environs from which she draws inspiration. Her urban works exude vitality, rendering the intoxicating rhythm of the modern metropolis in layers of neon and pastel. Melbourne's vibrant culture and colourful laneways, replete with prolific street art, inspire this collection, as does the eclectic energy of other bustling cities she has travelled.
Conversely, Jackie's coastal works are imbued with a meditative sense of tranquility. Drawing inspiration from her childhood in Tasmania and life chapters in Queensland, South Australia and New South Wales, Jackie channels the raw beauty of the abundant Australian landscape. Coastal treasures such as shells and sand are blended in a mortar and pestle then applied to the canvas, creating textured layers whose coarseness serves as an embodied and enduring connection to the environments in which the objects were found. Rendered in nature's organic palette, these works invite the viewer to contemplate the simple joys to be found in the world us.
