Leisa Wharington

After attaining an Arts Degree in Ceramic Design, Mornington-Peninsula-based glassblower Leisa Wharington spent an early chapter of her career overseas. She studied at Seattle's Pilchuck Glass School, the international home of studio glassblowing, in the 80s, returning in the early 2000s for a residency focused on technical experimentation with lathes, grinding methods, and polishing practices. This speculative, play-based approach remains a constant in her practice, lending itself to pieces that exude whimsical refinement.

Leisa's work is deeply informed by nature — the eddy of water in a coastal rock pool, the grain of timber, the wind's timeworn effect on sand and rock. The elemental beauty of the natural world and its tonal colour story are gently resurrected in her inherent handling of glass.

From her hot shop at The Studio & Co., a vibrant creative precinct she established in 2024, Leisa works closely with clients to design and make every piece. From handmade chandeliers, pendants, and wall lights to large bespoke installations for Australia's finest restaurants and bars, including Vue de Monde and Jackalope, nothing is outsourced, and each project is imbued with captivating character that reflects her continued fascination with nature and the aesthetic needs unique to each client.
